Did you change your spring break plans because of the virus? From what to what?
I had to cancel a large portion of my trip to florida (although we still went for two days) even though we were orginally going ot go for a week.
How did you feel when you were informed the remainder of the semester would be held online?
I was very concerned and anxious. It was worrisome because I feel that I do not learn as effectively online.
Where are you living for the rest of the semester? How did you feel about leaving campus? Or what's it like remaining on campus?
I have been at home. Honestly, I really miss campus and I didn't want to go home. But staying on campus just isn't the same without the people and I think I would undeniably more lonely if I had stayed.
What has been your experience with moving classes online? What's good? What's not so good?
It has been diffcult adjusting. I am a person who is motivated by activities and schedule, but being at home has crushed my motivation to do even basic things. I also have bad internet, so sometimes it is a struggle to stay present in class. It's nice to be able to take things ta my own pace a little more, however, the pressure I felt at school also made me feel more responsible and alert.
How has the virus (and the precautions taken to prevent it spreading) impacted your daily life?
I would say the self-isolation has affected me the most. I have not left my house in 3 weeks as of now and I really miss seeing people. Buying groceries has become difficult, however there are hours put in place for the elderly to grab groceries before the general public can, so since my parents are the right age, they try to get groceries during these special hours. It is also just crazy seeing how the only major news is about COVID-19. I admit sometimes it is interesting, but other times, I just really need a break from all of it.
How worried are you about getting the virus?
Not very worried. I am a cautious person, but I also have faith in my immune system. What I would be most concerned about is if I did get it, I may be asymptomatic and pass it on to other people without realizing. Both of my parents' health has deteriorated over the years and it is especially bad since they both have respiratory issues, so I have to be careful for their sake.
Do you know anyone who has gotten COVID-19?
No I do not. I only know about celebrities, politicians, or other well-known public figures who have gotten it because of the news.
Are you staying in? What are you doing to pass the time?
Yes, I have stayed in. I have worked on homework mostly and watched shows.
Are you going out? Where do you go and what is it like?
I went out once to go through a starbucks drive-thru as a treat after my 2-week quarantine was over (after I came home from florida). The streets were very empty to how they normally were and it was honestly sad seeing so many businesses closed and dark and parking lots deserted.
What is giving you hope and/or strength right now?
The possibility of it getting better by next year. I want to go out and live life normally again, but I understand it will take time. I also really want to be able to hug my friends again and just thinking about doing it makes me so happy. When the day comes I can hug them, I will remind myself to never take hugs for granted again.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about what you're feeling or experiencing right now?
It's hard to tell how I am feeling right now. It's a mix of a lot of things, but I think a lot of negativity has been with me since everything really started. It's nice to see people making the most of it, but it has been hard for me to stay happy and motivated when my friends and environment at Conn was a majority of what kept me that way.
